“He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). John the Baptist was a man who always put God first! He was a man who completely relinquished his life to God. He sought nothing for himself, no wealth, fame or glory …he only wanted to fulfill his calling to prepare the hearts of men and women for the Messiahs coming. He never hesitated to do what God asked of him no matter what the consequences. And the consequences were severe as his life ended when he was beheaded under the direction of Herod.
God is always looking for men who will sincerely desire Christ to be first and foremost in their life. He is looking for the same type of humility that John the Baptist lived …knowing that to walk with God for a lifetime, one must continually submit to God’s authority. To do so, it would be wise to prayerfully examine each and every area of our life, asking the Holy Spirit to help us understand the heart and the motivation when it comes to areas such as career, family, finances, marriage, thoughts and time (to name a few).
Romans 12:1-2 provides a great criteria in which to examine your life. “Therefore brothers, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good. Pleasing and perfect will of God.”
